Doug Huff, professor of philosophy at Gustavus Adolphus College, has been selected as one of four winners of the 2009 Mario Fratti-Fred Newman Political Playwriting Contest based in New York for his play, A Far Shore.
Gustavus welcomes its new students to campus June 30-July 2 to register for their first semester of classes.
Gustavus Adolphus College is once again ranked in the top 20 for the number of recent graduates who will serve for two years in the Teach For America program among schools with 2,999 or fewer undergraduates.
The Gustavus softball team will be featured on the NCAA Spring Championship Show, which will air this Saturday, July 4 at 1 pm (Central Time) on CBS Television (which is WCCO or KEYC in southern Minnesota). The Gusties made an impressive run in the NCAA Division III Softball Tournament finishing third, which is the best finish in the program's history. Coach Jeff Annis and his squad, the MIAC regular season champions at 21-1, finished with an overall mark of 42-9.
The National Collegiate Athletic Association announced on Monday that Gustavus Adolphus senior softball player Rachael Click and senior golfer Kimbra Kosak have been named two of 29 women's spring sport recipients of a NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. Click, a NFCA All-American and MIAC Player of the Year, helped the softball team to a third place finish at the NCAA Championships, while Kosak, the MIAC Senior Player of the Year, helped the golf team to a third place finish at the NCAA Championships.
The Gustavus Symphony Orchestra and the Gustavus Choir combine forces Saturday, May 30, to present the concert season's finale performance at 8:00 p.m. in Christ Chapel. Concerto/Aria Competition winners Azra Halilovic, piano and Tom Oelfke, trombone are among the featured performers as the the symphony and choir drop the final curtain of the fine arts season on the Gustavus campus.
From voice to violin, flute to bass trombone and piano to percussion, the weekend of May 15 - 17 and the Department of Music at Gustavus will provide the community with a lot of everything. Eight junior and senior recitals will feature the work of ten Gustavus student musicians. It's a great weekend of music in Jussi Björling Recital Hall and it's all free.
